Indigo twilight settles over a mountain path near Catania, where a swimmer executes a dive into a rectangular pool. The figure is cast in deep shadow, defined only by a sharp rim light tracing the curve of the back and the arc of the arms. Midsummer heat lingers in the still air, though the light has already retreated from the water's surface. The pool edges are stark white against the darkening landscape, and distant mountain slopes fade into the background haze. Muscles tense in a final moment of concentration before the body breaks the water, creating a silent splash that ripples across the dark liquid. at the edge is the bright highlight reflecting off the swimmer's raised knee.
