Sweeping Alleyway in Tokyo

A narrow Tokyo alleyway glows with the cool, diffuse light of early morning as a sanitation worker in a high-visibility vest maneuvers a heavy-duty broom against the curb. The bristles sweep up damp debris, catching the faint reflection of a nearby shop window in a puddle of rainwater. Behind him, the sliding glass door of a corner store is partially open, revealing shelves stocked with fresh produce and a stack of paperbacks on a low shelf. A stray cat sits calmly on a dry patch of concrete, watching the rhythmic sweeping motion.
