Sun Dog Pair Flanking Sun Over Frozen Lake in beneath fast-moving cloud bands near Oslo

Sun Dog Pair Flanking Sun Over Frozen Lake

by Glen Odom

Bright orange light from a low horizon sun illuminates a frozen lake surface beneath Oslo. Two distinct parhelia, or sun dogs, flank the central orb, appearing as glowing orange patches against the sky. Thick mist blankets the ice, softening the texture of the frozen water and obscuring distant shorelines. Fast-moving cloud bands streak across the upper frame, their undersides dark against the twilight glow. The scene shows the unique midnight sun phenomenon where the light source remains just above the horizon line. Fine cracks in the ice create a network of dark lines across the white expanse, leading toward the luminous atmospheric optical display above. The mist diffuses the light, creating a hazy, charged atmosphere over the still frozen waters.
