Student Packet Slips from Satchel in Caracas Lab

by Kara McKee

Rainwater darkens the concrete paths visible through the glass doors of a Caracas computer lab, where late afternoon light reflects off wet pavement. Inside, a student’s overloaded canvas satchel hangs slightly open, causing a stack of course packets to slip from the top. The paper edges catch the cool, gray light filtering through the humid air. Outside, the monsoon season turns the campus grounds into a glossy surface of rain. The packets, printed with local text, tilt precariously toward the floor. A few loose corners curl under the weight of the bag, while the interior of the room remains bright with the glow of dormant computer monitors. The scene shows a moment of quiet anticipation before lessons begin.
