Mist rests on the steep cobblestone slope of La Mariscal as a street vendor balances a wobbly cart loaded with bright yellow plantains and a chipped enamel pitcher. The damp air softens the harsh edges of the colonial church tower in the background, while the vendor’s hands, wrapped in a faded scarf, adjust a metal clamp securing a stack of wooden crates. A small, steaming metal kettle sits precariously on a crate, its vapor curling into the grey light. Nearby, a child in a oversized raincoat watches the steam rise, their breath visible in the cold dawn.
