The sun hangs directly overhead, casting short, sharp shadows across the paved street corner in Christchurch. A cluster of silver fern fronds grows from a planter box near the curb, their bright green fronds against the grey concrete. Nearby, a row of colorful mosaic tile fragments lines the edge of a low wall, adding texture to the urban setting. A few folding stools are stacked against a shop window, waiting for evening use.
