Mist rests on the damp red laterite pavement of a Hyderabad street as a woman in a crisp white cotton saree balances a woven bamboo tray on her head, offering steaming idlis to a customer. Behind her, the peeling turquoise paint of a colonial-era shopfront reveals layers of older cream plaster, against the bright white ceramic plates. A small potted basil plant sits precariously on a rusted iron ledge, its green leaves glistening with condensation from the cool dawn air. The soft, diffused light catches the steam rising from the food, creating a hazy, intimate tableau of morning routine against the textured, aged architecture of the old city.
