Spring Rolls and Endless Doors in Salerno
by Pablo Huff
Pale morning light floods the ceramic plate holding translucent Vietnamese spring rolls, their rice paper skins catching the glow of the nearby window. Fresh herbs spill over the edges, their vibrant greens against the soft white of the dough. Behind the food, the window frame dissolves into a corridor lined with identical wooden doors stretching infinitely to the left and right, a visual impossibility that defies the room's architecture. Condensation beads on the glass, distorting the view of the endless hallway just beyond. The pale walls reflect the skylight, creating a bright, hazy atmosphere that blurs the boundary between the intimate food setting and the surreal architectural extension. One shadow from a rolling pin falls sharply across the table, at the base of the impossible doors in the immediate foreground.
