Snow Creek Winding Through Lima Dunes After Rain in above dune fields and dry wadis near Rimac, Lima

Snow Creek Winding Through Lima Dunes After Rain

by Mallory House

A narrow ribbon of water cuts through a pale, wet meadow, its surface reflecting the soft gray sky. Snow patches rest on the low grasses, against the dark, damp earth of the surrounding dune fields. In the distance, dry wadis stretch toward the horizon, their ridges softened by the recent rain. The light is even and diffused, eliminating harsh shadows while highlighting the texture of the snow and the sheen of the water. Layers of terrain recede from the foreground, revealing the vast, undulating topography of the landscape near Rimac. The creek curves gently, guiding the eye across the expansive, muted colors of the rainy season. A small ripple disturbs the water's edge where it meets a frozen tuft of grass.
