Slackliner Balances on Canyon Path Near Cairo
by Ernest Lara
Tropical bright light floods the late afternoon, baking the arid canyon walls that rise steeply on either side of a narrow mountain path near Cairo. A lone slackliner stands in high tension on a thin webbing stretched across the dry gorge, their body leaning forward with competitive urgency. Heat haze shimmers above the sun-baked rock, distorting the distant cliff faces into wavy, liquid shapes. The slackliner wears light summer athletic gear, against the rough, beige stone and sparse, dry scrub clinging to the canyon floor. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the dusty ground, showing the precarious height of the line. The tension in the webbing creates a stark, straight white line against the chaotic, textured backdrop of the desert cliffs.
