Shopkeeper in Prague at Flat Noon Light
by Brad Farrell
Flat noon light washes over a narrow Prague courtyard where a weathered stucco wall meets a wrought-iron balcony railing. A shopkeeper in a faded linen shirt leans against the doorframe of a spice merchant, holding a wooden spoon that rests near a stack of terracotta mixing bowls on a low counter. Beside him, a towel edge drapes casually over a rusted rail, its frayed cotton catching the diffuse light. Fern fronds spill from a hanging planter above, their green shadows dappling the pale stone pavement below. A quiet moment of pause, with the rough textures of the metal and plaster contrasting against the smooth ceramic and organic leaves, all under the even, shadowless brightness of midday.
