Shop Counter in Liverpool

The damp grey light of a Liverpool dawn spills across a chipped Formica counter in a corner shop near the Baltic Triangle, where a ceramic blue and white porcelain bowl sits heavy with morning light, holding a few bruised apples and a half-peeled orange. Behind the glass display case, a shopkeeper’s hands, stained with chalk dust from earlier deliveries, rest on a ledger, while a frayed rope from a nearby crate drapes over the edge of the counter, its fibers catching the weak light.
