Shipbreaker With Torch in Kanpur Square Twilight

Deep shadows swallow the left side of the square while a sharp rim of twilight light traces the right edge of a worker's face. The man stands in profile, wearing a dark, soot-stained leather mask that covers his eyes and nose. His hands grip a heavy acetylene torch, the nozzle pointing downward toward the dusty ground. Behind him, the brick textures of Kanpur buildings fade into the cooling blue of the dry season evening. The air is still, leaving no smoke to obscure the clear sky above. Dust particles hang suspended near the ground, catching the faint orange glow of a distant streetlamp. The edge of the mask reflects a thin line of silver against the dark leather.
