Through the condensation-fogged glass of a Halifax pub window, a bartender’s hands slide a frost-rimmed mug tree across a scarred mahogany bar, the cold metal against the warm, amber glow of the interior. Outside, a slush-covered sidewalk reveals pedestrians in heavy wool coats huddled against the winter noon chill, their breath visible in the sharp, diffused light. Inside, the glossy enamel surface of a vintage soda fountain gleams under fluorescent tubes, reflecting the chaotic clutter of coasters and receipts.
