Under the flat, shadowless wash of Sapporo noon, a small ramen shop counter reveals a lived-in rhythm rather than a staged display. A worker’s hand reaches past a stack of white ceramic bowls to adjust a single, chipped orange coaster near the edge of the Formica surface. Beside it, a stainless steel ladle rests in a condiment caddy, its handle reflecting the diffuse light. The background blurs into the soft gray of rain-slicked window glass and the indistinct shapes of patrons huddled against the chill.
