Serpent Didgeridoo in Sydney Shrine Light in in a shrine lined with lanterns in Sydney

Serpent Didgeridoo in Sydney Shrine Light

by Christy Chavez

Dappled sunlight falls through green leaves, casting shifting patches of gold and shadow across a stone shrine in Sydney. A long didgeridoo rests against the rough, grey rock face, its surface painted with intricate, winding serpent designs in ochre and black. The wood grain shows signs of age and use, against the smooth, wet texture of the stone. Raindrops rest on the carved scales of the serpents and the surrounding foliage, glistening in the bright midmorning light. Behind the instrument, a row of small lanterns hangs from the shrine's eaves, their glass surfaces reflecting the damp air. The wet leaves drip steadily, adding a rhythmic visual pulse to the scene. One drop rolls down the curve of the nearest serpent's eye.
