Rope Maker Twisting Sisal in Port Said Foundry

North window light spills across the dusty floor of a Port Said foundry, illuminating the back of a worker seated on a long wooden walk. The worker's hands move with practiced rhythm, twisting thick strands of pale sisal fiber into a tight rope. Early autumn air hangs still in the high-ceilinged room, where warm shadows pool around heavy iron machinery in the background. The rough texture of the sisal contrasts with the smooth, worn wood of the walkway beneath the worker's feet. Dust motes float in the slanted beam, settling on the coiled rope sections already formed. One knot tightens at the end of the fresh strand, marking the completion of a segment.
