Roasted Chestnuts on Rain Darkened Kilis Street

Heavy overcast skies press low against the rain-darkened kiosk in Kilis, casting a flat, silvery winter light over the wet pavement. A crumpled paper bag filled with roasted chestnuts rests on the corner ledge, its brown paper absorbing the damp air. The kiosk's metal surface gleams with condensation, reflecting the muted gray of the sky. Raindrops bead along the bag's sealed top, sliding slowly down the creased fibers. The street corner remains quiet yet tense, with steam from the hot nuts barely visible against the cold, gray backdrop. A solitary drop of water rests on the edge of the paper, suspended just above the slick concrete below.
