Indigo twilight washes the wooden planks of a festival main stage in Brampton, where a striped canvas big top stretches overhead against the darkening sky. A ringmaster stands center frame, his formal black tailcoat reflecting the faint ambient glow of distant floodlights. He holds a cracked whip aloft, the leather thong frozen in a sharp diagonal arc against the deep blue evening.
