Restroom Anchor Kit in Northwest Territories Construction Site

by Lorenzo Bowen

Warm golden light spills across a muddy excavation edge where a metal restroom anchor kit rests on wet, thawing soil. The kit, a heavy steel bracket with bolt holes, sits taped off by yellow caution strips against the raw earth. Early spring moisture beads on the rusted metal surfaces and rests on the surrounding peat. Behind the bracket, the faint outline of a construction trench cuts into the permafrost ground, its walls showing layers of dark soil and melting ice. The low sun casts long, sharp shadows that stretch across the damp mud, highlighting the texture of the rust and the grit of the site. One bolt head reflects the fading orange sky, at the base of the industrial object in the rugged, thawing landscape.
