A woman in a floral housecoat pauses on the concrete landing, her hand resting on a brass latch of a heavy security door. Next to her, a white plastic dish rack overflows with drying chopsticks and ceramic bowls, positioned precariously near a window where a sheer curtain lifts slightly in the stagnant air.
