Researcher Annotating Star Charts at Hangzhou Observatory

A dimly lit corner of a remote field station near Hangzhou reveals a researcher's hands resting on large, aged star charts spread across a wooden desk. The room sits in deep shadow, illuminated only by a thin rim of cool light tracing the edge of a cloud-covered window frame. Early spring is visible through the low-hanging clouds pressing against the glass, softening the night sky outside. The paper surface shows faint pencil marks and precise red ink annotations, their texture rough against the smooth wood grain. A metal drafting compass lies still beside the charts, its legs casting sharp, dark shadows that stretch across the inked lines. The edge of the researcher's sleeve, dark wool, meets the paper at a crisp, straight fold.
