Rain-soaked Alley in Busan

by Jason Sherman

A narrow alleyway in the Gamcheon Culture Village glistens under the diffuse, gray light of a post-rain morning. The steep concrete steps, worn smooth by decades of foot traffic, reflect the muted sky, creating a slick, mirror-like surface that runs upward. On the left, a vibrant cluster of bougainvillea spills over a whitewashed retaining wall, its magenta and fuchsia blooms offering a sharp, saturated contrast to the damp gray stone. One, worn red raincoat hangs from a makeshift line strung between two balconies, its bright color echoing the flowers below. In the middle distance, a resident in a dark jacket carries a plastic bag, their figure slightly blurred by the distance and the soft, diffused lighting.
