Preparing Tea in Melbourne

Under the deep indigo wash of Melbourne’s blue hour, a wet laneway reflects the neon spill from a nearby café sign, illuminating a street vendor’s cart parked against a brick wall. The vendor, a woman in a bright yellow apron, carefully ladles steaming tea into small glass cups, her hands moving with practiced rhythm. Steam rises in soft plumes, catching the ambient light and against the cool, damp air. On the counter, a cluster of colorful spice jars and a traditional mortar and pestle sit beside a stack of clean ceramic bowls, hinting at the complex flavors being prepared.
