Mist rests on the limestone facades of a narrow street in Jabal Al-Weibdeh as a street vendor adjusts a charcoal grill, the smoke rising in soft grey ribbons against the cool blue dawn. He wears a faded apron, his hands moving with practiced ease over the sizzling meat, while a small ceramic mug sits on a nearby metal cart, steam rising from its rim. A stray cat watches from a low wall, its fur damp with condensation, as the first light begins to touch the curved roofs of the old city.
