Pouring Tea in Fez

by Dolores Potts

Warm late afternoon light falls through the intricate lattice of a cedar mashrabiya window, casting geometric shadows across a small tea shop counter in Fez. A local merchant, his hands dusted with flour, pours mint tea from a height into small glass cups, the steam rising in the golden haze. On the counter, a traditional brass lampshade rests beside a stack of worn cassette tapes, relics of a bygone era, while a single peg rail hangs empty against the plaster wall.
