Tea Pouring in Fez in in Fez, Morocco

Tea Pouring in Fez

by Lana Mack

A narrow alleyway in the medina glows with the amber light of late afternoon, illuminating a small tea stall where a vendor pours mint tea from a height into a glass. The steam catches the golden hour rays, creating a soft haze against the backdrop of intricate zellige tilework in deep blues and greens. A worn wooden counter, darkened by years of use, holds a brass tray with a few small glasses and a rusted metal latch on a nearby cabinet door. Potted geraniums spill over the edge of a high window ledge, their red petals against the dusty stone walls. A colorful doormat lies at the entrance, slightly frayed from foot traffic.
