Poultry Cart Bay in Foggy Ranch Corral

Starlight spills across wet concrete in a ranch corral, illuminating a metal poultry mortality cart parked beside deep boot prints. Late summer ground fog pools in low depressions, softening the edges of the cart's rusted frame. Faint ground glow reflects off the damp surface, highlighting the heavy tread marks that curve toward the bay. The metal wheels rest firmly on the slick floor, their treads caked with dried mud. Leading lines of the concrete slab guide toward the cart's dark interior, where shadows hide the contents. One boot print near the rear wheel shows the distinct pattern of work boots used in this late summer pre-dawn labor.
