Porch Swing North Window Monsoon Evening

Soft, diffuse light from a north-facing window washes over a wooden porch swing suspended on a covered veranda in Pyongyang. The late afternoon monsoon sky outside casts a cool, gray glow that reflects gently off the polished floorboards. A sturdy rocking chair sits adjacent to the swing, its woven seat facing the open door where rain-slicked pavement glistens. The swing's ropes hang taut against the muted interior walls, and wet droplets rest on the exterior railing. Dust motes float lazily in the shaft of light, settling on the smooth varnish of the armrests. A small ceramic cup rests on the floor beside the chair, catching a faint highlight from the overcast sky.
