Pegboard at Flat Noon Light in Milan
by Roman Fuller
Under the flat, shadowless glare of a Milanese noon, a narrow service alley reveals a wall of exposed brick patched with mismatched terracotta tiles. A rusted metal pegboard, salvaged from a nearby workshop, hangs bolted to the masonry, holding a cluster of heavy-duty kitchen tongs and a single, faded letter tray used for sorting mail. Below, a chipped ceramic bulb planter overflows with stubborn basil, its green leaves stark against the sun-bleached stone. To the right, a vintage radio sits precariously on a windowsill, its dial face cracked, while a sketchbook lies open on a wooden crate, pages fluttering in the stagnant air.
