Peat Cutter Face at First Light on Irish Bog

Pale dawn sidelight grazes the deep furrows of a weathered face, highlighting coarse skin textures and the faint sheen of moisture on a brow. The subject stands near a riverside landing where dust hangs low above the grassy ground. Midsummer grasses sway slightly in the frame, their green blades against the earthy browns of the bog soil. Soft falloff shadows carve out the hollows of the cheeks and the line of the jaw. The eyes hold a quiet, attentive stillness, reflecting the dim morning sky. Fine particles of dust settle on the shoulders of a heavy wool coat, while the river water behind remains dark and glassy under the early light.
