Palermo Tarnished Brass Tambourine in in Palermo, Italy

Palermo Tarnished Brass Tambourine

by Fiona Camacho

A tarnished brass tambourine rests on a wet limestone windowsill, its frame glistening with the first light after rain in Palermo. Raindrops rest on the stretched animal skin of the drum head, distorting the faint reflection of the grey Sicilian sky above. Below the sill, the narrow alleyway is slick with water, reflecting the warm ochre tones of the surrounding stucco buildings. One drop of water falls from the edge of the drum, landing silently on the rough stone surface.
