Bright midmorning light falls through sheer curtains, casting soft shadows across a rustic wooden table in Davao. A large, shallow paella pan rests over open flames, its surface gleaming with oil and the juices of fresh seafood. Shrimp, mussels, and clams nestle among saffron-stained rice, their shells reflecting the filtered sunlight. Polished metal edges catch small, sharp highlights against the warm, earthy tones of the wood. The steam rises gently, barely visible in the humid monsoon air. The flames lick the bottom of the pan, illuminating the textured grains of rice and the glistening wet surfaces of the shellfish. One mussel shell lies slightly askew near the rim.
