Norwegian Parade in Cap-Haitien Night Sky in at a festival street procession in Cap-Haïtien

Norwegian Parade in Cap-Haitien Night Sky

by Rebecca Hays

Starlight falls through low-hanging clouds to illuminate a procession on a Cap-Haïtien street. Participants wear traditional Norwegian bunads, their deep reds and greens standing out against the cool night air. Colorful flags ripple above the crowd, catching faint ground glow that reflects off the wet pavement. The architecture of the surrounding buildings shows colonial stone textures, lit by the soft, diffuse light of a cool season night. Faces are partially hidden by shadows, yet the intricate embroidery on the sashes remains visible. The low clouds create a heavy, textured ceiling that presses down on the street. One lantern on a nearby post casts a small pool of warm yellow light onto the cobblestones, highlighting the dust motes settling in the stillness.
