Murmansk Ice Sculptor in Midnight Sun Shadow
by Mary Ritter
Soft white snow falls gently against the deep blue-grey shadows of a Murmansk winter morning. The over-the-shoulder view reveals an ice sculptor wearing thick, wet gloves that glisten with melting moisture. Their breath condenses into a visible, frozen cloud that hangs suspended in the frigid air. A sharp rim of pale, low-angle sunlight cuts along the edge of their hat and shoulder, separating them from the darker background. The lighting is stark, leaving most of the face in deep shadow while highlighting the texture of the damp fabric. Snowflakes drift across the frame, catching the faint light before vanishing into the gloom. The wet leather of the gloves reflects a dull, grey sheen against the cold white surroundings. One flake rests on the brim of the hat, melting into a dark spot.
