Moroccan Rug Weaver in Shenzhen Cafe
by Myles Leach
North-window sidelight floods the cafe interior, illuminating a Moroccan weaver seated at a small table during bright midmorning. The weaver's hands manipulate colorful wool threads on a portable frame, the rhythmic motion of weaving captured in stillness. Rain streaks the glass behind, blurring the urban Shenzhen street into soft gray washes of monsoon gray and wet pavement. Lamplight pools in the deep corners, against the cool daylight that highlights the texture of the rug's developing pattern. The weaver wears traditional attire, the fabric draping naturally over the chair. A wet coffee cup sits beside the loom, condensation beading on the ceramic surface reflecting the window's light. at the edge is the precise knot of a blue thread against the red warp.
