Monochrome Arctic Convoy in Alberta Night
by Philip Rios
A switchback road winds through the Alberta landscape under a sky that defies the seasons, glowing with the pale, endless light of summer while the ground remains in deep shadow. The scene is rendered entirely in grayscale, stripping texture and color from the rolling hills and the heavy icebreaker convoy navigating the curve. Every vehicle, from the lead ship to the trailing units, appears as a stark, silver-gray silhouette against the dark asphalt. At the center of this monochrome procession, a single small crate glows with a vivid, saturated red, standing out as the only source of color in the world. This crimson object rests firmly on the deck of the lead vessel, its edges sharp and undeniable. Reflections in the wet pavement below mirror the grayscale shapes perfectly, doubling the visual depth, while the red crate casts a faint, impossible crimson glow onto the surrounding metal surfaces.
