Mole Negro Rice Plate on Barcelona Tea Tray

Glossy, deep brown mole negro sauce blankets a mound of white rice on a round ceramic plate. The plate rests on a rectangular wooden tray within a Barcelona tea house. Pale morning light from a north-facing window falls across the surface from the left, highlighting the sheen on the thick sauce and the individual grains of rice. Condensation droplets rest on the side of a glass positioned beside the plate. The wood grain of the tray runs diagonally under the dish. Shadows stretch softly to the right, defining the curve of the plate rim. Small flecks of chili and sesame seeds scatter across the dark sauce near the center.
