Copper-toned light washes over a raised reviewing stand situated at a checkpoint lane near Jalapa. Brass stanchions gleam with a warm, firelight reflection, standing in orderly rows against the dimming sky. Large PA horns point outward from the platform, their metal surfaces catching the last glow of the day. Beneath the wooden riser, route tape is neatly boxed and secured, resting on the damp earth. The wet season leaves the ground slightly slick, reflecting the ambient warmth. The area remains nearly empty, holding a disciplined stillness as if waiting for the command to resume movement. One shadow stretches long across the front step, marking the transition from day to night.
