Fluorescent tubes mounted beneath a heavy camouflage net cast a cool, artificial glow that competes with the fading horizon light wrapping the perimeter of the shelter. A metal engine warm-up cart sits centered on the packed earth, its surfaces reflecting the overhead spill against the rough, gray texture of cinderblock walls. Late summer vegetation peeks through the gaps in the netting, where heavy overcast skies diffuse the natural daylight into a soft, even wash. The cart's mechanical components stand in sharp contrast to the weathered fabric overhead, while shadows pool deep in the corners of the space. A rusted bolt on the cart's frame catches the dimming light, marking the edge of the artificial zone.
