Midnight Canoe on Glassy Lake Near Colonia del Sacramento

Cold moonlight spills across the glassy surface of a lake, turning the water into a dark mirror that reflects the pale sky. A wooden canoe rests motionless on the causeway, its hull touching the damp earth at the water's edge. The causeway stretches horizontally, separating the still water from the dark land where low-hanging dust creates a soft, hazy layer just above the ground. Late summer vegetation lines the background, appearing as indistinct dark shapes against the night sky. The scene is illuminated by a single, cool light source that casts long, faint shadows and highlights the texture of the wet wood and the smooth, unbroken water. The horizon line remains perfectly level, showing the stillness of the wind-open space.
