Midday Sandstorm Veils Stars Over Dunes in beneath fast-moving cloud bands near Nouakchott

Midday Sandstorm Veils Stars Over Dunes

by Jackson Crosby

Pale, dusty light floods the sky where fast-moving cloud bands stretch across a clear expanse. Fine sand particles rise in swirling columns, catching the illumination to form a hazy, semi-transparent veil over the landscape. The dunes below form smooth, rolling ridges with sharp crests that catch the light, while the wind whips the surface into soft, blurred textures. Above, faint points of starlight struggle to pierce the thick, airborne dust, appearing as dim, scattered pinpricks behind the moving curtain of sand. Suspended grit turns the bright mountain light into a diffuse, milky glow that softens every edge. A deep shadow falls across the nearest dune slope, against the bright, blowing dust that drifts toward the right.
