A heavy metal boot scraper sits wedged into a recessed entryway on a steep San Francisco street, catching the damp, gray light of early morning. Rain-slicked cast iron reflects the pale sky above, while water droplets cling to its rough, textured surface and sharp scraping teeth. Behind the scraper, a dark wooden door frame is visible, its grain darkened by years of exposure to the persistent coastal fog and frequent downpours.
