Mending Nets in Essaouira

Early morning light spills over the blue-painted wooden shutters of a traditional riad courtyard in Essaouira, casting long, soft shadows across the worn stone pavement. A local fisherman, his face weathered by the Atlantic wind, sits on a low stool near a stack of woven bamboo baskets, carefully mending a torn net with practiced, rhythmic movements. Beside him, a small clay teapot steams gently on a portable burner, its dark form against the pale blue walls. An American Bobtail cat, with its distinctive short tail, lounges lazily on a nearby window ledge, watching the activity below.
