Fishermen Mending Nets on Essaouira Harbor Wall in Winter

A group of local fishermen stands along the weathered stone ramparts of the Essaouira medina, their hands busy repairing tangled fishing nets. Several bright orange and white fishing floats hang loosely from the thick hemp ropes, against the muted grey of the overcast winter sky. The wind ripples the fabric of their heavy wool coats as they work, with the Atlantic Ocean churning below. In the background, the distinctive blue-painted wooden shutters of traditional houses line the narrow streets, while gulls circle overhead against the low-hanging clouds. The daily routine of coastal life in Morocco, grounded in the texture of the stone and the movement of the sea.
