Mandolin in Velvet Case Under Amber Sunset Light
by Bjorn Curtis
Rich amber sunset light spills across a painted display ledge in Taichung, illuminating a mandolin resting inside an open velvet-lined case. The warm glow catches the fine rosin dust suspended in the air and settles on the deep crimson lining of the case. Curved wooden surfaces of the instrument reflect the fading daylight, creating soft, muted highlights against the dark interior. The light casts long, gentle shadows that stretch across the ledge, showing the texture of the velvet and the grain of the varnished wood. Near the edge of the case, small particles of rosin scatter like tiny stars against the dark fabric, while the floor below mirrors the amber tones in a quiet, blurred reflection. The instrument sits still, its scroll and f-holes clearly defined by the directional light.
