Bright late morning light floods the Passeig de Gràcia sidewalk, illuminating a street-side shoe shiner’s compact station anchored by a worn wooden stool and a cracked leather tool case. A customer’s polished black oxford rests on the low metal footrest, reflecting the sharp, geometric shadows of the surrounding modernist facades. The shiner, wearing a faded blue uniform, leans forward with intense focus, applying wax with a frayed rope fibers brush that catches the harsh sunlight. Nearby, a discarded clay pot planter sits empty against a tiled wall, its rough texture against the sleek glass windows of a high-end boutique across the street.
