Barcelona Seamstress at Late Morning Light
by Anne Harvey
Sunlight floods the narrow passage of a Passeig de Gràcia service stairwell, casting sharp geometric shadows across faded terrazzo tiles. A weary seamstress sits on a low wooden crate, her posture relaxed as she pins a hem on a dark wool coat. Beside her, a stack of damp hand towels rests on a rusted metal cart, their white fabric against the grime of the urban corridor. Above, wrought-iron balconies spill over with vibrant red geraniums, their leaves catching the late morning glare. One leather basketball leans against the peeling plaster wall, its texture worn and matte. A quiet pause in the city’s rhythm, where domestic labor meets the vibrant decay of historic architecture.
