Overhead, a heavy cloud band breaks to allow strips of honeyed evening light to wrap around the dog's shoulders and cast long, soft shadows across the floorboards. A folded blanket corner rests near the dog's paws, while a rumpled curtain edge hangs loosely from the porch railing in the foreground.
