Jungle Vines Overgrowing Surveyor Transit in beneath a tower crane on open ground in Erbil

Jungle Vines Overgrowing Surveyor Transit

by Renata Berger

Thick emerald jungle vines surge from the dry dirt, wrapping around the legs of a brass surveyor's transit mounted on a tripod. The plant life has expanded with impossible speed, climbing the metal frame and obscuring half the instrument under broad, glossy leaves. Above, the steel lattice of a tower crane cuts through low-hanging grey clouds, casting sharp shadows on the unfinished concrete ground. The midmorning sun reflects off the remaining exposed brass gears and the dusty, cracked earth beneath the foliage. One vine stem twists tightly around the tripod's leveling screw, halting the machine's function. The contrast between the industrial metal and the aggressive, living green creates a static, frozen moment of rapid overgrowth in the open construction yard.
